Calina Lawrence - Industrial Waste

from Soundscapes 2016 by USF Performing Arts & Social Justice

/

about

In honor of the ongoing fight against Big Oil and, specifically, the Dakota Access Pipeline, this soundscape is dedicated to realizing how much human beings manipulate and contaminate water even though it is our main source of life. We have increasingly become deaf to the sounds of water in many of our daily lives and often lead our lives thinking that water is unlimited when the opposite is actually the harsh truth.

About 70% of the earth is covered in water, while only 2.5% of that total is fresh water. Around 70% of industrial waste is dumped into bodies of water, where they pollute the usable water supply. About 700 million people worldwide only have access to contaminated water.
